Two Worlds – Linux Open Beta Technical Instructions

1. Steam Game Setup

  1. Open your game library and locate Two Worlds.
  2. Right-click and select Properties.
  3. Navigate to the BETAS tab.
  4. Enter the beta test password:
    • Branch: linuxbeta
    • Password: TW1LinuxBETA
  5. Select the appropriate branch to enable the beta version.

2. Wine & Lutris Configuration

  • Wine Version: 9.0.1 (must be installed via Lutris).
  • Prefix: 32-bit.
  • Windows Version: Set to XP in Wine configuration.
  • Essential Winetricks:
    • media
    • quartz
    • amstream
    • xact
    • devenum
    • directplay
    • wsh57
    • directx9
    • vcrun2005
    • physx
    • d3dx9

3. Game Directory Setup

  • Game Folder: Wine expects to find the game in the folder D:\TwoWorlds . The pre-script will prepare this folder automatically.
  • Pre-Script:
    • Place customRunGame.sh inside the game root folder.
    • Configure this script as a pre-launch script in Lutris. This step is important to properly prepare the drives that Wine will use.

4. Additional Software & Configuration

  • PhysX: Install PhysX 9.13 software legacy in the game folder to prevent crashes.
  • Frame Rate Limiting: Use DXVK to limit the frame rate to 30 FPS.
  • DLL Overrides: Some DLL overrides may be required for optimal performance.
  • dgVoodoo Wrapper: Note: This wrapper can cause crashes in online mode and texture loading issues.

  • Error Fix: Move cdb_100.xml and mdb_100.xml from Inside Operations\Two Worlds Control Panel to C:\Users\<User Name>\AppData\Roaming\TwoWorldsCP.
